With the sweet warmth of spring months come happiness, joy, and smiles for the whole family. Unfortunately, the change in weather also means that bugs start gearing up to invade your home. Whether it’s termites, moths, cockroaches, or any other type of creepy-crawly insect, there are plenty of steps you can take to keep them out of your home.

Seal it Up

Your windows, doors, and screens can give access to bugs via tiny cracks. To avoid an infestation, seal up any visible holes with caulk and replace your old weather stripping.

Keep it Clean

Much like humans, insects love to eat. Which is why it’s so important that you don’t give them anything to come after. Keep your kitchen as clean as possible, store your food in sealed containers, and make sure no trails or crumbs are found anywhere around the house.

Watch the Floors

No matter how hard you try, food crumbs will litter your home. Avoid insects by sweeping and mopping your floors as often as possible. We also suggest you take the trash out regularly and avoid stacks of books and newspapers from lying around for extended periods of time.

Avoid Outside Messes

You know that pile of branches and leaves that you still haven’t thrown out into the alley? Well, it may be a good idea to get that done as soon as possible. These piles of yard waste, firewood stacks, and even standing water are the perfect places for bugs to hang out and multiply. Do the right thing for your home and get rid of them frequently.

Exterminate

If you do your job and prepare before the warm months arrive, then there’s a chance you won’t see a single insect in your home. However, if a straggler does happen to appear, kill it on the spot. It’s your priority to kill any insects to avoid letting the problem get out of hand.
