However, this doesn’t mean tickets and arrests never happen. In fact, with such a high increase in licensed drivers over the last few decades, there has also been a significant increase in broken traffic laws. So, what’s an effective first step in avoiding citations? Identifying a few reasons why drivers get reprimanded, of course!

Speeding

Speeding is perhaps the most common traffic violation in Texas. Whether it’s going five miles per hour over the posted speed limit or 20 miles per hour over, law enforcement will have no problem issuing a citation. These violations can carry hefty fines, especially if the ticket was issued in a school or construction zone. What’s the best way to avoid these costly citations? By following the speed limit.

Ignoring Seatbelts

In Texas, it’s the law to fasten your seatbelt. Failing to do so can result in a fine and maybe even court costs that can be as high as $200! But, apart from the legalities, avoiding your seatbelt means potentially suffering severe injuries or death in an accident. Avoid a ticket and injuries by always wearing yours.

Parking Violations

Parking laws vary by city, but one thing that they all have in common is that they can be pricey if broken. Always acknowledge street signs that label where parking is and isn’t allowed. The last thing you’ll want to see is a ticket tucked under your windshield wiper! Also be sure to insert enough change into a parking meter.

Phone Usage while Driving

Using a phone while behind the wheel is one of the most common forms of distracted driving. Looking down at a phone to dial a number, look up a contact, or respond to a text is not only dangerous but also deadly. Taking your eyes off of the road for even a few seconds can result in a collision or loss of vehicle control if bad weather is a factor. Do the right thing and ignore your phone until you’ve arrived at your destination. If it’s important, pull over into a parking lot to respond.

A Few Reasons Why Drivers Get Reprimanded in Texas – Part 1 In order to keep Texas’s roads safe and free of hazards, lawmakers have implemented countless rules and guidelines for drivers to follow.
